I studied English Literature in Damascus University and am interested in civil society and its role in building democracy, especially in countries that face civil war like the one that Syria is facing now. I am also interested in the mechanisms that help to resolve the permanent conflicts of the Middle East through peaceful means as an alternative solution to armed struggle. My interest lies in civil wars, rebuilding, and national reconciliation as well as disarmament and comparison of world cultures and political systems. This is in order to gain a deeper understanding of the political system in my country in particular and the region in general. All of this has made me place all my interest in civil society and its role in this complicated process. Especially as I speak Arabic, Kurdish, English and Turkish fluently. All of these things will help me to gain a wider understanding of these societies and their culture and I hope to benefit from the Lebanese experience in the field of civil society.
